America’s enigmatic Adena culture, which flourished in the Ohio Valley between roughly 1000 BCE and 200 BCE, is best known for its sophisticated burial practices and monumental earthworks. While much about the Adena is known to modern archaeologists, a number of questions linger about this mysterious ancient culture, the remarkable monuments they left to time, and the curious tablets that have been recovered from famous Adena sites.
This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we are joined by researcher Jason Pentrail to discuss his new two-volume book series Adena: Mound Builders of the Ohio Valley. From Ohio’s mysterious Serpent Mound to the controversies associated with finds like the famous tablet retrieved from West Virginia’s Grave Creek Mound, we explore many of the great mysteries about one of America’s true great “lost” ancient cultures.
